Under high strain rate loading, strain-induced martensitic transformation (SIMT) can strongly influence deformation, strain hardening, fracture behavior, and transformation toughening. SUS304 is a metastable austenitic stainless steel widely used in engineering applications due to its excellent strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Under high strain-rate loading, strain-induced martensitic transformation (SIMT) can strongly influence deformation, strain hardening, fracture behavior, and transformation toughening. However, the contribution of SIMT to shear-dominant fracture under various strain rates remains insufficiently understood. The interaction between SIMT, thermal softening, strain localization, and fracture behavior also requires further investigation under controlled shear loading conditions. However, the contribution of SIMT to shear-dominant fracture under various strain rates remains insufficiently understood. The interaction between SIMT, thermal softening, strain localization, and fracture behavior also requires further investigation under controlled shear loading conditions. Research Objective: This research aims to clarify the contribution of strain-induced martensitic transformation to shear-dominant fracture behavior and transformation toughening in SUS304 under various strain rates. A Torsion-type Split Hopkinson Bar (TSHB) will be developed to investigate shear deformation under a wide range of strain rates. Experimental results will be combined with SEM, EBSD, and finite element analysis using CalculiX to establish a mechanism-based understanding of shear-dominant fracture and transformation toughening.
